“For most of history, ― Virginia Woolf Welcome to March. In this part of the world, it came in like a lion, indeed. As I sit here with my hands paused, fingertips poised and ready to write to you, my mind swirls with the maelstrom happening outside of my safe little office walls. Inside here, I can convince myself that the world can be safe and calm... just not right now. Because even inside here, there are too many things, impossible to deny; impossible to unknow. There are too many people suffering and too many people worried about their safety, their livelihoods, and for some, their very lives. "None of us are free, one of us are chained." Without denying, without ignoring, are there ways for us to find some safety? Heck, yes! By learning... by informing ourselves and becoming the people our better selves know we can be. · · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · · March brings with it an opportunity to celebrate and honour International Women's History Month 2025 with grownup reading lists and children's reading lists... and playlists too! All to listen and learn... this month and every month! · · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · · Here's a taste of what I am reading these days... I just finished our book club book: Matrons and Madams by Sharon Johnston. Although I loved the story, the writing voice and pace took me a bit to get used to. It was to the point, with few embellishments. Still, a good read. I have dived right into Aunt Dimity and the Duke by Nancy Atherton. It's the second in the Aunt Dimity series. Where Johnston's book might have fallen short for me in the description department, Atherton more than makes up for it. Though the Aunt Dimity books seem to be somewhat quick reads, they are also filled with tasty descriptions, well developped characters and plots that have more twists than a cinnamon pastry. I have Steve P. Aitchison's The Witches of Scotland Series (The Dream Dancers: Akashic Chronicles, Books 1-8) sitting in the wings for when I have had enough of Aunt Dimity. And I have more cozy murders on my shelves than any one reader should have, for when I am done with all of those! On audio, I have The Creative Act by Rick Rubin, all cued up. I've also been dipping into Sarah Faith Gottesdiener's The Moon Book now and again, to help enhance my wild and wonderful lunar life. February 14, 2025 “What a blessing it is to love books.” ― Elizabeth von Arnim, The Solitary Summer We're about halfway through February and we've just had the heaviest snowfall of the Winter. No surprise, really. But it does mean that many folks spent the better part of the last 24 hours digging themselves out of over a foot of snow... 32 cm to be precise, according to some reports. AND... there's more coming this weekend. But you know... this is a good thing. It's supposed to snow, in this...
February 2025 “Books have the same enemies as people:fire, humidity, animals, weather, and their own content.” ― Paul Valéry cr: Paul Volkmer We've just stepped into February and although "some days must be dark and dreary", as Longfellow said, that must mean some days must be bright and vibrant, right? But... what about if the weather itself doesn't know what the heck it's doing? And... does our mood have to match? Well, of course our moods don't have to match the weather, but they sure seem...
