[Silent Book Club ~ Ottawa Chapter] June Meetups, Old and New!

“Of course, fresh flowers are the answer
to any June gloom you may be feeling.
Flowers really do solve all problems.”

Mia Moretti

Happy June, dear Reader! The warmth and sunshine of June is here, bringing with it cozy Spring reads!

In May, we had the opportunity to share about SBC at the Next Chapter Expo out at Stanley's Olde Maple Lane Farm, where we chatted with people about the joys of reading and about what their current reads were. It was a wonderful event!

May also saw us host a wonderful Book Swap gathering at Anina's Cafe (the venue of our Vanier meetup) with nearly 40 people, swapping books and finding new reads to take home.

As for upcoming meetups, have one that is having its third gathering in June, and another just starting up! Woohoo!

There's lots to share in our newsletter... read on!

What I'm reading these days...

I finished Lowcountry Boil by Susan M. Boyer and look forward to chatting with my book club about it. A quick check-in with one of my book club friends and she agreed that it gives Alphabet Series vibes (Sue Grafton's mystery series with Kinsey Millhone). Today I started The Rose Bargain by Sasha Peyton Smith, on my daughter's recommendation. I read the first three books in the St. Marin's Cozy Mystery Series by ACF Bookens. If you enjoy cozy reads, book stores, kind people and faithful furry four-footed friends, then you might like this one too.

Enough about me and by books...

Do reply to let me know what you're reading!

How does a reading meetup work?

  • Typically, at reading meetups, 60 minutes of reading is bookended by 30 minutes of chit-chat and sharing, during which time you are encouraged to order something to sip or nibble, as these spaces are being provided free of charge to the chapter. Some hosts are putting their own spin on this format, so it might vary a bit... but the cornerstones of sbc613 are always present: reading, inclusiveness, and no admission.

Make your experience fit your vibe

  • On the sign up page, click through to the various location links and get to know our meetup spaces!
From location to timing, choose which best suits your ideal reading meetup.
  • Come just in time for the reading then scoot at the end of reading time, or come to share and discover what others are reading.
    This is your sbc experience!
  • And please... come a little hungry or thirsty... ready to support our host venues. 💛
